Summary:

In the absence of the regular teacher, manages student learning in accordance with the goals and directives of the school and the district.

 

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform all aspects of the position as described below satisfactorily. The information listed below is representative of the characteristics of the position and the knowledge, skills, and abilities required. Essential Functions / Typical Tasks:

The minimum performance expectations include, but are not limited to, the following functions/tasks:

 

  1. Maintains and respects the confidentiality of student and school personnel information;

  2. Maintains discipline and classroom control that fosters a safe and positive environment for all students and staff in accordance with school and county policies;

  3. Ensures adequate supervision to assure the health, welfare, and safety of all students;

  4. Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities;

  5. Reports to the office upon arrival at school; checks mailbox of absent teacher for materials requiring immediate attention; requests clarification of school rules and procedures, if necessary;

  6. Reports all student injuries, accidents, illnesses, and discipline problems to the appropriate authority immediately or as soon as is reasonably possible;

  7. Implements lesson plans, while ensuring the integrity of academic time and in a manner that motivates students to learn and participate;

  8. Organizes students for effective instruction;

  9. Dismisses all students from the classroom before leaving the building;

  10. Provides report or summary of activities accomplished, lesson plans completed and not completed, and any additional information the regular teacher may need to know when returning to the classroom.

  11. Completion of substitute feedback on AESOP, although voluntary, is suggested.

  12. Collects and places students' papers in the regular teacher's desk;

  13. Returns instructional materials, equipment, and keys to the proper place;

  14. Determines if his/her services will be required for the next school day;

  15. Complies with and supports school and division regulations and policies;

  16. Models non-discriminatory practices in all activities;

  17. Performs other related duties as assigned by building administrator(s) in accordance with school/division policies and practices.

 

  

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  1. Serves as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, intelligent individuals.

  2. Is sensitive to and supportive of the needs of students with disabilities and/or from culturally diverse backgrounds.

  3. Adheres to and enforces all board policies.

  4. Conducts other duties or assignments as directed by the immediate supervisor or building administration.

 

  

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

 

  1. Must be able to follow oral and written directions and have the ability to establish effective working relationships with staff and students.

  2. Ability to maintain effective classroom management strategies.

 

  

Education and Experience:

Bachelor's Degree in any field to be eligible for a Substitute Teaching license, OR an existing Teaching license from the Ohio Department of Education.

Temporary Substitute Licenses are available for applicants without a Bachelor's Degree.

 

Special Requirements:

 

  1. Must be at least 18 years of age.

  2. Must agree to authorize the Center for Collaborative Solutions Council of Governments to conduct a Criminal History Background Check/fingerprinting.

  3. Must have access to reliable transportation.

  4. Must possess strong moral character.

 

  

Physical Demands / Requirements:

 

  1. Duties are typically performed in school settings, e.g.: classroom, gymnasium, cafeteria, auditorium, and recreational areas.

  2. Frequent walking, standing, stooping, lifting, up to approximately 20 pounds, and occasional lifting of equipment and/or materials weighing up to 40 pounds may be required. Other physical activities may be necessary.

  3. Occasional travel with students on field trips may be necessary.

  4. Vocal communication for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word.

  5. Hearing for perceiving information at normal spoken word levels.

  6. Visual acuity for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities.

  7. The worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, noise and hazards.

  8. Occasional movement of students by wheelchairs and other mechanical devices may be required.

  9. Regular Instruction for special needs children may be necessary.

  10. Daily personal and close contact with children to provide classroom management and learning environment support is required on assigned days.

  11. Regular contact with other staff members and building administrator(s) is required on assigned days as a substitute.

 

 

Evaluation:

Building administrator(s) will evaluate performance on the ability and effectiveness in carrying out the above-listed responsibilities.
