Congratulations to CNE’s Academic Quiz Team on a successful season so far! The team currently holds 8-3, standing 4th in the Southern Buckeye Athletic and Academic Conference (SBAAC).
The team consists of 14 students at the high school level, with two senior co-captains Angel Snider and Olivia Amann. They started practicing back in October, offering informal sessions for students to see what the team was all about before joining. Afterwards, the team practiced three times a week throughout November and December.
In November, the Academic Quiz Team attended the Little Miami Academic Challenge, and in December they attended the Rowdy Raider Tournament at Northmont High School.
“The competition was pretty tough, but both tournaments were great experiences for the students to get a taste of what matches are really like before our league matches began in January,” says Head Coach Becky Loughran. “We also hold an Alumni Match right before Christmas break, where alumni from the quiz team are invited to come back and play the current team. It’s always a lot of fun!”
Starting in January, league matches were held every Tuesday and Thursday. The team also gets to participate in a faculty match, where our student team plays the faculty after school.
“The students love to see their teachers come out and support the team and play them in competition,” adds Coach Loughran.
The season comes to a close this Saturday, February 26, with the SBAAC tournament. Wish our team good luck as they prepare to take on the competition!
