Our jewelry making, coffee drinking, lasagne baking principal,  Mrs. Schmidt, is also the proud mom of one adult son and has traveled the world with stops in  Germany, Japan, Spain, Korea, Taipei, Vietnam, Taiwan, Italy, and Indonesia.  Wait until you hear what she did on her first day of school ever! Read on to learn more about our fearless leader.

What would the students be surprised to find out about you? I was the first person in my entire family to ever graduate college. 

What are some pets you’ve had or would like to own? Iguana, hamster, rabbit, cat and lots of dogs. I have two dogs right now! 

What is your dream vacation? I want to go to Paris! 

How do you spend your summer breaks? Traveling and at the swimming pool

What are your “trapped on a desert island” books? I would read all of the Harry Potter series. 

What would your last meal be? Fried chicken, mac n’cheese and a sweet tea 

If you won the lottery and decided to give up teaching, what would you do instead?  I would move back to Okinawa Japan and take my entire family with me! I would have plenty of space so all of my teacher friends could visit! 

What are some traditions or superstitions you have for the First Day of School?  Arrive very early and wear a back to school outfit! 

What makes a ‘good day’ at school?  Kids learning and lots of hugs! 

How do you show your school spirit?  I wear my customized Rocket tennis shoes. 

What accomplishment fills you with pride so far this year? So many kids are improving their reading skills which is a huge building accomplishment. 

What is your favorite dish from the cafeteria? Tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwich. 

What sort of morning routine do you have to get jazzed for class?  Coffee! Coffee! Coffee! 

What inspires you? Teachers who are creative and passionate about their jobs. Learning new things! 

Are there any embarrassing teaching moments you’re willing to share? One day I arrived at school with two different colored shoes. One black, one blue. 

What’s the best thing about being a teacher? The best thing is being able to see kids learn something new. 

If you could pass on any wisdom to your students, what would you share? Be at school every day that you can make it! You really don’t want to miss out on all of the great things happening at school. 

If you could take the students on a field trip to anywhere in the world, where would you take them? Nara, Japan- when they are there they could feed and pet deer that are walking around the village. 

What kind of driver were you when you first got your license? I was a very good driver. No accidents. 

What is your first memory from school? I left school early and walked home without permission on my first day of Kindergarten. I got in pretty big trouble and so did my friend that agreed to come with me. 

What are your must-have smartphone apps? Amazon, DoorDash and Venmo

How do you think students will remember you and your class? I think they will remember Rocketeer assemblies, Principals’ Challenges and the hugs!
