I want to remind you of the importance of getting your son/daughter vaccinated before they go back to school this fall. Vaccines are the best way you can protect your child from a number of serious diseases.
As you are making your back-to-school checklist for your child, I encourage you to make sure your son/ daughter receives all the vaccines that are recommended for them. Schedule your child’s appointment today to ensure they are up-to-date on the vaccines they need. The State of Ohio requires the following vaccinations for 7th and 12th grade students:
- Children entering seventh grade must have one dose of MCV4 (meningococcal vaccine) to start school and one additional dose prior to entering the 12th grade. (MCV4) is required for preteens at age 11 or 12 for protection against bacteria that cause meningococcal disease, a very serious infection of the covering of the brain and spinal cord.
- Children entering seventh grade must also have one dose of Tdap to continue providing protection against tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis (whooping cough).
For more information on these required vaccines, go to http://www.odh.ohio.gov/odhprograms/bid/immunization/immindex1.aspx.
Protect your preteen and talk with your child’s clinician about what vaccines they need. You may also contact me with any questions. I can be reached at (513) 625-1211 ext. 326 and immunizations records can be faxed to (513) 625-6080. All update immunization records are required to be summited on or before the first day of school.
The Clermont County General Health District will also be offering several vaccination clinics. To schedule an appointment, please call (513) 735-8400 or visit their website at http://www.ccphohio.org for more information.
Thank you for your prompt attention to this request.
