Batter Up, Take Your Mark, Spring Sports Are Here!
By Gracie Minton
It’s spring time, ladies and gentleman, and it's time to lace up our shoes and hit the fields! Track, boys tennis, baseball and softball are in season, and they are already preparing to give an amazing show. Tryouts are over, and practices are beginning and coaches and students are ready at Clermont Northeastern High School.
A change hit the varsity softball team when they were told a new coach was taking the field. Terri Hoerth will now be the coach for the Varsity softball team. Coach Hoerth works at Clermont Northeastern as a Food Service Director and a coach for the junior-high volleyball team. She previously coached recreational softball for over twenty years.
Coach Terri is looking forward to seeing the whole team grow, with the help of assistant coach Frank Johnson and her daughter Olivia Hoerth. When asked if she looks forward to the season, she responded with, “Yes, very nervous. It’s a whole new group of girls. I’m nervous but excited.” Terri’s expectations of her athletes are, “Coachability, just drive, wanting to be on the field, easy to get along with, willing to work hard, and give it all for the Rockets.”
One athlete that meets those requirements is senior third baseman, Maggie Bierman. She has been playing softball for 12 years. Her favorite thing about softball is playing with the same team she’s always played with before. When she was asked her opinion of Terri Hoerth coaching she said she is, “curious as how she’s going to run the team and how it’s going to unfold.” When Maggie played last year, they did very well, being Sectional Champs and placing second in districts. Hopefully they can do it again this year.
We hope that our Varsity softball team continues to work hard and bring us some winning games this season.
