Introduction

8th Grade Math           Mr. Geiger                            Rm. 106

 

This class is designed to help prepare the students for the 8th grade achievement test and also prepare them for high school.  I want my students to come with a positive attitude and a willingness to learn.  All I ever ask my students to do is always do their best and “NEVER EVER GIVE UP!”

Topics that will be covered:

          1st Trimester        Numbers, Number Sense, and Operations

          (August and September)

          1st Trimester         Patterns, Functions, and Algebra

          (September, October, November)

          2nd Trimester      Patterns, Functions, and Algebra

          (December)

          2nd Trimester      Geometry and Spatial Sense

          (December, January and February)

  2nd Trimester         Measurement

  (February and March)

          3rd Trimester       Data Analysis and Probability

          (March and April)

          3rd Trimester        Review for Achievement Test and Begin

                                        Preparing for High School  and 10th Grade OGT

          (April and May)

 

GRADING SYSTEM

Points are given in this class for Homework (10 pts.), Quizzes (50 pts.), Projects (50 pts.), and Tests (100 pts.).  Points are given based on effort for homework:  10 pts (turned in on time and complete), 9 pts (turned in one day late), 5 pts (turned in only half complete), 0 pts (not turned in at all).  Projects will completed in groups with points given based on effort and correct answers.  Quizzes and tests will be graded for correct answers with partial credit given for work shown.

        Grading Scale:

        A = 93% - 100%

        B  = 85% - 92%

        C = 74% - 84%

        D  = 66% - 73%

        F   = Below 66%
